Looks like AppSense’s acquisition of RAPSphere has finally started to take shape in the form of a new product going by the name of MobileNow. Apparently it will provide a “full suite of functionality to effectively manage and secure apps, data and devices while providing a frictionless user experience on both iOS and Android”. Details are pretty hard to come by at the moment, but some of the good points I can pick out appear to centre around the fact that there’s no customization or patching required, and that encryption and DLP will be fully available. AppSense software is normally agent-based, so having MobileNow without this would certainly appear to be a bit of a departure, assuming I am reading the details correctly. I also quite like the idea of jailbreak detection, which I am assuming may indicate the presence of an Application Manager-esque antimalware solution based around whitelisting.
The only gripe I can really find from the (admittedly pretty thin) details on the Internet so far is that it’s only going to be available for iOS and Android. As a Blackberry user who is getting a bit hacked-off with his device and has been toying with the idea of going to a Windows Mobile, I’m a bit peeved that I’ll have to get a different device in order to test MobileNow when it becomes available 🙂
Edit – MobileNow has now discontinued development
